Weekly Update: 29 Weeks

How far along: 29 weeks

How Am I Feeling?: very emotional this week.

Mood: all over the map

Clothes: Maternity.

Sleep: I tire easily but seem to be sleeping pretty well.

Cravings: none that I can think of....

Gender: girl

Movements: she's a mover and a shaker

Belly Button: poking out a bit :(

Best Moment This Week: everything looks great according to my doctor and I passed my GTT test.

What I Miss: not having crazy mood swings

What I am Looking Forward To: My best friend's wedding is tomorrow and that should be fun

Milestones This Week: none

How Big is Baby?: According to The Bump, the baby is the size of a squash. It finally changed!

Your Baby - 29 Weeks Pregnant
Your baby can open his eyes and will turn his head towards a source of any light. His sensory organs are well developed. His fingernails and toenails are growing and he is beginning to regulate his own temperature. The bone marrow is completely in charge of production of the red blood cells now. Your baby even urinates about a half liter of urine into the amniotic fluid every day. Your baby weighs about 2.5 pounds and is over 15 inches long.
The movements you feel will probably begin to change at this point. You once were the home of wild gymnastics parties, but now as the space becomes cramped you will notice smaller movements, such as elbows and knees poking you.

She's 2.5 lbs and 15 inches? Wow. I can definitely already feel the elbows and knees poking. I also feel when she changes positions because she doesn't fit so well so I can feel her trying to flip.

Update!

I just heard back from my doctor's office and I passed my glucose tolerance test! This means I do not have gestational diabetes. Woo hoo! Go Me!

On another note... I also do not have syphilis. Which is good news for me and my marriage!

Doctor's Appointment 6.0

Yesterday I had my monthly appointment. I had to get tested for Gestational Diabetes. An hour before the appointment I had to drink a sugary orange drink and then nothing else until my appointment. The drink wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I stared at it for a few minutes before I worked up the courage to drink it. After I started drinking it, I realized it just tasted like an orange Little Hug. Not so bad even if I'm not a huge fan of hugs.

We got to the appointment and they called me back right away because they had to draw my blood within the hour that I drank the drink. Once again, I peed in a cup and was totally awesome at it! They weighed me and took my blood pressure. My blood pressure is normal and I've gained 4.5 lbs since my last visit which is good.

The nurse came in and drew some blood to test for diabetes. I don't particularly like having my blood drawn but I'm fine as long as I don't watch. It was pretty painless. I reminded the nurse that I also needed my Rhogam shot so she said that she would send in the NP and she would get my shot ready.

My NP came in and measured me. She once again said that I'm growing very well and that I've got a big baby! I really thought I was getting smaller because I don't really see much of a difference from a few weeks ago, but she says I'm actually pretty big. We also listened to the baby's heartbeat. I don't think the baby likes this too much. I think she's afraid of it because she seriously moves all day until we get there and she is absolutely still when we try to find her heartbeat. I really thought she'd try to kick it, but she hasn't yet!

The NP said that the nurse would be in to give me my shot but she also informed me that the State of Ohio now requires pregnant women to get tested for syphilis at 28 weeks because they've had some outbreaks. She said they would need another vial of blood from me. Boo.

The nurse came back in to draw my blood for the second time. She tried to take it from my left arm this time but people always have trouble finding a vein in that arm. She decided that she didn't want to stick me a bunch of times trying to find it so she said she would just take it out of my right arm again. I now have two stick marks in my right arm. The second stick hurt worse than the first because my arm was still tender and sore.

Then I had to get my Rhogam shot. They have to give it to me in the butt. I got this in the hospital when I was 7 weeks and it hurt a lot. I was really nervous because I really didn't want to get it again. This time it didn't hurt nearly as bad. I was very glad until we started walking out the door. It hurt so bad to walk! Eventually it started feeling okay. When we got home, I couldn't really lay on my right side at all which made it uncomfortable and every time I would stretch, it would hurt.

We decided to go to O'Charley's for dinner after my appointment because it was already late. We celebrated Father's day and "they poked Stephanie too many times at the doctor and now she wants something yummy for dinner". I ate so much that I had a hard time breathing and I had to stand up in the restaurant. This baby doesn't leave much room for me to breathe.

So all in all, a pretty successful appointment even with all the extra poking. The baby looks great, I look great. What more could we ask for?

My butt still hurts today but we're on to appointments every 2 weeks now! Woo hoo!

Weekly Update: 28 Weeks

How far along: 28 weeks. That's 7 months!

How Am I Feeling?: pretty good. very restless at night.

Mood: happy. :D

Clothes: Maternity.

Sleep: I get pretty worn out. I'm usually ready to fall asleep on the couch in the evenings. I think that pregnant women should get an afternoon nap at work. Actually, I think everyone should get an afternoon nap. I really think I would function better.

Cravings: none that I can think of....

Gender: girl!! :D

Movements: she is constantly moving. I LOVE IT.

Belly Button: oh boy, it's getting so shallow!

Best Moment This Week: I think this week was pretty average.

What I Miss: not a thing.

What I am Looking Forward To: being a mom! Also, my doctor's appointment on Monday. I always like going to the doctor and getting updates on my baby!

Milestones This Week: I'm in my 7th month now. That seems crazy to me!

How Big is Baby?: According to The Bump, the baby is the size of an eggplant for another week.

Your Baby - 28 Weeks Pregnant
The eyes are partially open and can perceive light. Your baby's eye lashes and eye brows continue to grow and subcutaneous fat is deposited. If you have a baby boy, his testes will probably begin descending. About 9 out of 10 babies born now will survive with intensive care services and the help of medical technology. Your baby is almost 15 inches and weighs over two pounds.

Weekly Update: 27 Weeks

How far along: 27 weeks and 1 day (yesterday was a little crazy)

That means I've entered my 3rd trimester! I can't believe how fast this is going!

How Am I Feeling?: better this week. We bought a pillow/pad at Ikea last weekend and I really think it's been helping my back.

Mood: Yesterday was a sad day that turned into a nice night out with my inlaws. I've been feeling pretty happy lately. I'm super excited to be a mom.

Clothes: Maternity. I finally put away the piles of clothes that have taken over our laundry room and I even found some shirts I had forgotten about!

Sleep: I'm tired. For some reason, I suddenly get up about 3 times a night now to pee. I sleep pretty well once I am actually asleep though.

Cravings: none that I can think of....

Gender: a sweet little girl.

Movements: seriously all the time. Sometimes they are kicks/punches, sometimes I can feel her roll, sometimes I just feel her head or butt sticking out. Sometimes, she moves in this weird way that pretty much vibrates my entire stomach. It's almost like she's having a seizure or maybe just rocking out to something she hears. Earlier this week, Ben and I were watching my stomach when she did one of those vibrating things. He thought it was me! I don't think he thought she could actually move like that. Truthfully, I didn't think so either until the first time she did it.

Belly Button: Still an innie. Last night I was reclining on the couch in my usual position (with my tummy hanging out) and Ben tried to put a pretzel stick in my belly button (weird, I know. Don't judge.) It didn't even stay.

Best Moment This Week: I don't actually remember much of this week. Did I have a best moment? Is this bad? Can someone remind me? kthanks.

What I Miss: nothing. Except Josie. :(

What I am Looking Forward To: holding my baby.

Milestones This Week: uh, hello? I'm in my 3rd trimester now. That's 3rd as in last. As in, I only have about 13 weeks to go.

Funny Story: I ended up driving my FIL (father-in-law) home from work yesterday. We got to my car and the car next to mine had parked ridiculously close. I tried to get in and I just couldn't squeeze into my car. He tried to get in the driver's door and he couldn't fit either! That's how close they were. My FIL had to get in the passenger door, climb over into the driver's seat and back my car out of the spot so that I could get in. It's a good thing he was with me or else I don't know how long I would have been there waiting for someone to come by that would be able to move my car for me. I wish I would have taken a picture.

How Big is Baby?: According to The Bump, the baby is still the size of an eggplant. I want a new fruit already!

Your Baby - 27 Weeks Pregnant
This week marks the beginning of the third trimester. The retina develops its normal layers by the 27th week of gestation. These layers are important in receiving light and light information and transmitting it to the brain for interpretation. Your baby's skin is quite wrinkled from floating in water. It will stay this way until a few weeks after birth as your newborn fills out into a baby. Your baby is about 14.5 inches long, and weighs over two pounds.

letters to baby: why there?

hi baby,

i love that i can put my hand on my tummy and feel exactly where you are. i love that i can see you and feel you moving at the same time. i love that you are so active. i just have to ask. what is so special about my right side? why do you like curling up there so much? don't get me wrong, i love it. i really do. but sometimes it hurts. like right now. and all day yesterday. and i just wonder why you like it over there so much. do you think you could try out a different side of my body today? maybe hang out on the left for a little bit. or better yet, maybe you can just relax in the very center where it's roomiest. mommy would really appreciate it.

i love you! don't stop moving!!

love,
mommy

Weekly Update: 26 Weeks

How far along: 26 Weeks. Almost 3rd tri!

How Am I Feeling?: Not too great this week. Every morning I wake up feeling like I had been hit by a bus the night before. My back still hurts a lot and I keep forgetting to take a pillow with me to work. I have been very sluggish all week and really really tired. Especially today.

Mood: I'm so in love with my baby. Even when I'm having a bad week, her little kicks and movements always make me smile. They definitely make my day.

Clothes: Maternity. Which means I am alternating my work pants between 2 pairs of pants and one pair of capris. Can we get a jeans day sometime soon??? I also feel like I wear the same shirts over and over. I'm starting to get bored. I guess I'm stuck with this wardrobe for another 3 months though because we're not doing any more maternity clothes shopping.

Sleep: I think I've passed out every night. I haven't even gotten up in the middle of the night this week. That's how tired I've been.

Cravings: I haven't been too hungry this week either.

Gender: baby girl.

Movements: All the time. A couple of days ago, I was walking to my car after work when it started to feel really really tight under my rib cage. I actually had to stop because it was uncomfortable. I started rubbing the spot that was tight and it was really hard! I was confused because I didn't know why it would be so hard that high up. While I'm trying to figure out what it was and rubbing it, suddenly, whatever it was kicked me back! I think I even said something like "OH!" out loud and people probably stared at me. It was so cool. I've been feeling kicks and moving for a while now, but I've never actually been able to feel her like that. All week since then she's been hanging out on my right side and I can feel her. My right side is really hard but my left is squishy! Last night, Becky, Melissa and my mom all got to feel her on my side. Melissa and Becky also got to feel her kicks for the first time.

Belly Button: Still an innie but getting shallower.

Best Moment This Week: The Grandparents Duebber were able to feel baby early this week. I never really thought that I would like people to touch my stomach, but I actually enjoy sharing it with people (well, some people... :D). I really don't mind if someone asks me first or if I invite them to touch me. I think it's the random moments when I'm caught off guard that I maybe don't like. Or strangers. I don't think I'll ever like strangers touching me.

What I Miss: This week, I miss just going for a walk with Alex and not feeling like someone beat me up the next day.

What I am Looking Forward To: 3rd tri! It's so close and I really can't believe it. I feel like my second trimester has gone by so quickly! I am also excited for when I can actually tell which body parts I can feel. Right now, I know it's her, but I don't really know what part of her I can feel.

Milestones This Week: more and more people getting to feel my baby girl.

How Big is Baby?: According to The Bump, the baby is still the size of an eggplant and apparently will be all month. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me but hey, we're comparing babies to fruit. How much sense does that really make anyway?

Your Baby - 26 Weeks Pregnant
Your baby's developed oil and sweat glands are now functioning. His fingernails, toenails, eyebrows and eyelashes are now fully present and will continue to grow until birth. He can respond to sound and can hear you and those around you. Although we assume the uterus is a quiet place, the baby has been surrounded by noise for a long time. Things like your heartbeat, digestion, other body functions and external noises are heard by the baby. In fact, you may feel the baby jump at a sudden noise. Your baby is now about 14 inches and weighs a little less than two pounds.

The uterus also allows some light to be seen so your baby is aware of light and dark. Your baby's skin is wrinkled and translucent and may have a reddish color due to the presence of dermal blood vessels. Veins are visible through your baby's skin, although it is quickly changing from transparent to opaque. The following months will see an increase in body fat. The lungs continue to mature with the development of air sacs and also begin to secrete surfactant (a substance that will help your baby's lungs expand at birth). At this stage of development the various organs have formed. About 4 out of 10 babies born now may survive (with intensive care services).

The Nursery: Part III

After clearing out the room entirely, we got to painting. We spent many hours in Home Depot deciding on colors. We brought home piles of swatches and slowly narrowed it down. Ben had always wanted a really bright green color. I liked the color but I was just worried it would look to boy-y (yes, that's a word. :D) if we were having a girl. (At this point, we didn't know what we were having). I finally decided that green would be cool. It is a gender neutral color and we were going to have purple accents that would make it even more neutral. I also told him I would add some bright pink if it was a girl. Here we are painting the room:

I wore a mask just in case.

After the room was painted, we ordered our monster decals. We got them from etsy.com from a shop called Stephen Edward Graphics. He had nine different monster decals. We got to choose the two colors that we wanted for each decal. We were very pleased with the result.

The decals are sticky on one side. We peeled the back of the paper off the decal and stuck the graphic to the wall. Next, we pulled the top piece of paper off the monster and it stayed stuck to the wall. It was surprisingly easy and we really didn't have much trouble with it.

This was the first one we did. We were so surprised by the vividness of the colors! They really stand out and look great against the green walls.

Ben putting up another decal:

I told him to pose like the monster. The resemblance is scary.

With horns:
Me and my favorite decal:

Before we put up the decals, we taped areas in the room where we wanted the shelves and the crib. That way we had the room mapped out before we did anything and we could see the best places to put monsters.
Check out our monster splat mirror!
See our cute dresser?
We found some sheer curtains at Ikea. We decided to take the doors off the closet and put up curtains instead. I really hated the closet doors because I could never get them to open right. They were also bulkier and since the room is pretty small, we wanted to be able to get in the closet easier. We didn't realize they were this sheer so we're going to get a few more to put up. I told you I would add pink if it's a girl!
We painted the outlets and vents purple to add a little splash of color to the room. Here I am touching up the outlet.
We also bought some white shelves and painted them purple. This is Ben measuring for the precise location.
Here are the shelves with our original monster inspiration. We found these metal bobblehead characters at Target right after Halloween.

Finally, our last project was the crib. They delivered it on a Tuesday afternoon and we put it together Wednesday after work. After a few restarts due to poorly written directions (!) we finally got the crib together.
Studying the directions...

I did it!
and with my allen wrench!
The finished crib and trundle!

Some shots of our finished room. You can see the purple window curtains in this shot. They match the outlets and really add a cool pop of color to the room.

The room is too small to get a good shot of the whole thing. I had to stand in different corners and just take pictures of the different walls. I realized while posting this that I don't have any shots of our armoire. We also need to add in the lighting for the room and we're looking for a bright colored rug to add some color to the floor. Of course we obviously need the crib mattress and bedding or else it won't be too comfortable for baby. We're just about finished though... and with 15 weeks to spare!
